Authorities in Mexico discover three bodies while searching for missing tourists.
Mexican authorities
have discovered three bodies in Baja California, the region where two
Australian brothers and an American went missing.
According to CBS News, the bodies were
found in Santo Tomas, a town in the area. The identities of the deceased have
not been confirmed yet.
Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33,
from Perth, along with American Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, vanished while on a
surfing trip near Ensenada on April 27.
Mexican police have questioned a woman
and two men in relation to their disappearance, and forensic tests will be
carried out to identify the bodies.
The Baja California prosecutor's
office announced on Friday that arrest warrants had been issued for forced
disappearance.
Earlier, abandoned tents, a burnt
white pickup truck, and a phone linked to the missing tourists were found.
Rescue teams, including firefighters,
had been combing through remote cliff areas in search of the Robinson brothers
and Mr. Rhoad.
The FBI, in a statement to CBS News,
affirmed their commitment to investigating every lead, stating they are in
contact with the family of the missing American and collaborating with
international law enforcement partners.
Baja California, known for its violent
crime rates due to drug gang activities, contrasts with the popular surfing
conditions in Ensenada, attracting tourists from nearby California.
Both the US State Department and
Australia's foreign ministry are closely monitoring the situation and working
with Mexican authorities and law enforcement agencies.
